A frenzy and power grab

As the NYT article suggests, Trump and his GOP supporters are in a frenzy as the Mueller investigation unearths more information of serious wrongdoing. That they are comes as no surprise. Power, not democratic norms, institutions, and traditions, is what animates them. If that means running roughshod over democracy, as they are now doing, in order to protect the former they don’t have any hesitation.

Thia reckless power grab makes me ask myself: what to do other than express exasperation and outrage to the increasingly brazen and reckless assault on our democracy, truth, and decency? What to do in the face of this unprecedented shit storm that gathers steam and threatens to engulf the country? One obvious answer is volunteer for one or another task that requires doing in the lead up to the fall elections. But as necessary as that is, it also seems like that isn’t enough in these perilous times in which we find ourselves. Any suggestions?.

Besides blogging, I also leave plenty of time for swimming, hiking, ESPN, music, reading, drinking good beer, and, not least, my family and friends. While I currently reside in New York, my politically formative years were spent in Portland, Me. and Detroit during the 1970s and 1980s. I graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia (where I played basketball) and received a MA in economics from the University of Connecticut. I was the national chairperson of the Communist Party, USA from 2000 until 2014 when I stepped down at the convention. In 2016 I resigned from the Communist Party two years later. We were no longer on the same page.

  1. What to do next? To the streets!! nonviolently. All issues… medicare/single payer, $15/hour [personally I’d go for $20], cut military budget by 50%, more taxation of the rich and the corporations……all on the table. All non-negotiable. Desperate times…Dr. King’s FIERCE URGENCY OF NOW.. Above all, nonviolence…apre nous: la deluge.

  2. The streets alone won’t help. What needs to be done is to put pressure on the money. Barring a revolution, the best way to weaken the worst of the capitalist barons is to pick one or two and demonstrate at their gates and homes. Picket and boycott them. Add letters, phone calls and online attacks. The keep nibbling away at us because we act like deer in headlights. We need to fight back economically. My opinion.

    1. Right Patrick. When I say to the streets, I mean the streets and everything else short of violence [simply not appropriate]. I like the idea of home-picketing and corporate office demonstrations.
